MARKET OPPORTUNITIES
- Australia's high standard of living and growing economy provides a market for high value goods and services.
- Exporters to Australia will benefit from the country's general policy of reducing tariffs and duties.
- There are opportunities for suppliers of car and car parts, computers and telecommunications equipment, which were among Australia's top import items.
- Food consumption in Australia is affected:
- by rising consumer consciousness,
- increasing demands for organic foods (estimated at A$200
Mn),
- demand for sugar-free products in the confectionery industry,
- increasing consumption of fresh foods,
- increasing nutritional awareness by adult males,
- influence of increasingly multicultural population, and
- desire to experiment with
flavours.
- The relaxation of the restriction on sodium benzoate by Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) allows for increased exports of processed food.
- The Australian market is open to Philippine exports of mangoes coming from
Guimaras.
- Fresh pineapples may be exported to Australia provided they are de-crowned and fumigated with methyl bromide.
- Sectors experiencing increased construction activity are infrastructure, transmission and telecommunications sector, and mining.
