The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Reduces Tariff on 180 Product Imports; Relaxes Entry Visa Requirements for Trade Visitors
Posted 20 June 2008

Arab News and Saudi Gazette carried the official announcement on the approved customs tariff reduction on 180 product imports effective April 1, 2008.

The revised tariff rates cover mainly foodstuffs, building materials and consumer goods.  Some of the major products with reduced tariffs include bottled water, soap, sanitary pads, napkins, tissue papers, detergents, gypsum, paints, plastic pipes, materials required for doors, electric wire, pre-cast building blocks and fertilizers.

Tariff was also reduced for frozen chicken, eggs, vegetable oils, macaroni, milk, juices and canned food, from 20 to 5 percent.

In a related development, the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh thru the Philippine Trade and Investment Office in Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reported that foreign businessmen may now be issued trade visas without the need for an invitation letter from the Chambers of Commerce or a Saudi firm.

Henceforth, Philippine businessmen interested in obtaining a trade visa are advised to directly contact the Saudi Embassy in Manila.
